Toshiba Lighting Technology and Panasonic announced that they will be producing straight-tube LEDs that can replace straight-tube fluorescent lamps.
Toshiba Lighting Technology is currently aiming to market in 2010, and develop products that are equivalent to the brightness of fluorescent lamps with 20- and 40-shaped lamps. Panasonic said it plans to start production within the year.
The straight-tube type LED lamps that were previously listed on the Japanese market are products of small and medium-sized manufacturers and Korean manufacturers in Japan, and have not reached the same level of awareness as LED bulbs, and have not been able to expand their popularity. In October 2010, the Japan Bulb Industry Association established the specification for a straight tube type LED lamp "a straight tube type LED lamp system (for general lighting) using an L-shaped lamp socket", which is conducive to the development and popularization of a straight tube type LED lamp.
