Hantro hardware codec surpasses the advantages of software solutions
The Hantro codec design provides semiconductor manufacturers with the lowest risk solution for integrating high-performance video capabilities into their chipsets. By integrating hardware video codecs instead of software video codecs, chipmakers can extend the video playback time of battery-powered devices while still achieving full HD playback performance even with the lowest-end device CPU.
For example, decoding 1080p video at 30 frames per second, the Hantro 9190 requires less than 100MHz, which is not possible with software. Compared to commercial software solutions for digital signal processors (DSPs), the 9190 delivers up to 11 times more power, with less than 50 milliwatts of power for high-definition video decoding, decoding the performance of standard definition (SD) video. The consumption is less than 10 mW.
In addition, the Hantro 9190 features a configurable multi-format architecture that allows semiconductor manufacturers to use a single chip design to support all of the video codecs commonly used today, and includes a full suite of integrated image post-processing features to further reduce costly software computing.
