The notebook retail market maintained high growth in the first half of 2010, but the increase has slowed since May.

From the perspective of the first half of the year, notebook products are still one of the fastest growing products in consumer electronics. According to GfK China’s national projections, notebook shipments totaled 13 million in the first half of the year, up 62.5% from 8 million in the same period last year. The growth rate of the retail market is significantly higher than that of the commercial market, which grew from 5.23 million units last year to 9.25 million units this year, an increase of 77%.

According to the GfK China notebook 110 retail monitoring report, the retail sales of notebook PCs during the period from January to May 2010 increased by 88.2% year-on-year. Among them, the year-on-year sales growth rate remained at over 90% from January to April, but the year-on-year growth rate dropped sharply to 65% in May.

There are two main reasons for this phenomenon:

First, the promotion period of large-scale retailers has changed. For specific examples, take the example of large 3c stores such as Gome Suning. This year's “May 1st” Golden Week Promotion started in the late period, significantly ahead of the end of April of previous years, making the original Part of the "May 1st" Golden Week sales were dispersed in April, which reduced sales in May to some extent. This caused the year-on-year increase in May to decline.

Second, the market's demand has slowed down. The entire notebook market has faded rapidly since the May 1st, and the terminal shipments have slowed down significantly. This has caused a huge contrast with last year's sustained highs. Channel inventory of various manufacturers has rapidly increased. What caused this result? This requires us to revisit the market in the same period of last year. In fact, according to the original market cycle law, each year after the "May 1st" is the traditional off-season sales, until the summer promotion of the opening of the market will only reheat up. The buzz in May and June of last year was more of a consumer demand that was delayed due to a large area of ​​stock shortage in the first quarter. Since the first half of this year, the supply of the market has remained normal, so the recurrence of sales in the off-season is a very normal thing.
