Xinjiang's first 220 kV carbon fiber composite wire transmission line is put into operation

On May 23, the construction of the carbon fiber composite core aluminum strand, the 220 kV Red Full Line, was designed and completed by Xinjiang Light Source Electric Power Survey and Design Institute. This is the first time that Xinjiang has used carbon fiber composite wires in the 220 kV line project. The operation of this line will provide Xinjiang Power Grid with a wealth of operating experience in the application of carbon fiber composite wires in the 220 kV transmission line.

With the acceleration of urbanization in China, the city’s electricity load has continued to grow rapidly. When the transmission capacity of the original overhead conductor cannot meet the Power Supply requirements, the conventional solution is to dismantle the original line and establish a new one. This kind of program not only has a large investment, but also has a long construction period, and the line needs a long time power outage, which will have an adverse impact on the people's livelihood and the safety of the power grid. Compared with traditional steel-cored aluminum stranded wires, carbon fiber composite cored aluminum stranded wires have many advantages such as light weight, high strength, good thermal stability, low relaxation, low energy consumption, long service life, large current carrying capacity, and corrosion resistance. Replacement of the original steel-cored aluminum stranded wire with this new type of wire can greatly increase the current carrying capacity of the line, and the existing poles and towers do not need to be transformed. The benefits of using this new type of wire are very significant.

The 220 kV Red Full Line reconstructs the project, including the replacement of common steel-cored aluminum stranded conductors with a total length of 17.738 km from the 45th tower of the Hongchang line to the 220kV Laomancheng gantry, and the carbon fiber composite aluminum-stranded cable, and 220 thousand The Fuhonghong Line was rebuilt and the total investment was controlled within 14,115,800 yuan.

During the construction period, the on-site technicians captured how to achieve safe line-off in long-term continuous strong winds and continuous cross-over areas, avoiding technical problems such as damage to the wires due to large bending radius. The entire project achieved power transmission success in only 26 days.

It is reported that after the line is put into operation, the entire line can withstand the maximum wind speed of 35m/s and the thickness of the 10mm line ice coating, effectively improve the Urumqi city network structure, make full use of existing power grid resources, eliminate power transmission bottlenecks, and meet the Hongyanchi power plant The addition of 2 × 330 MW of electricity to ensure the transmission of power from the 750 kV grid in Xinjiang to the northwest grid.
