Intel's next generation 22nm Ivy Bridge processor has been confirmed to be backward compatible with specific P67 and H67 motherboards. AMD's new generation of bulldozer processors can also be used on existing Socket AM3 motherboards.

AMD announced last year that the bulldozer processor will use the new socket interface Socket AM3+, and with the 9 series chipset, is not compatible with the current motherboard, but you can install the current AM3 processor on the new AM3+ motherboard, which actually broke a lot The user does not need to replace the system to directly upgrade the dream of the bulldozer.

However, at CeBIT 2011, AMD's motherboard partners told us that at least two AM3 motherboards have successfully launched the AM3+ bulldozer processor sample after refreshing the specially crafted new BIOS. Although specific manufacturers, motherboard models and performance are not disclosed, at least, the upgrade is expected!

Of course, if you want to enjoy the new features of the bulldozer platform, including faster HT bus speed, higher memory frequency and so on, the 9 series motherboard is still necessary, and there will be a certain degree of compromise on the AM3 motherboard.

AMD is likely to officially launch the bulldozer platform at Computex 2011 in Taipei in early June.
