Intel Releases i7-990X in Q1 2011

Intel will release an Extreme processor in the first quarter of 2011, but it will not use the Sandy Bridge core. The model of this processor is Core i7-990X, can guess from naming, this is only a product with slightly higher frequency than Core i7-980X.

Core i7-990X still adopts Gulftown core with 32nm process technology, frequency is 3.46GHz, supports hyper-threading technology, built-in three-channel memory controller, has 6 cores and 12 threads specifications, and can automatically overclock with the support of Turbo Boost technology. To 3.73GHz, TDP is 130W.

According to our previous report, the i7-990X should be launched in the fourth quarter of 2010, but this news did not point out the reason why the processor was postponed to the first quarter of 2011.

The Core i7-990X is expected to sell for $999 (equivalent to RMB 6,792), which is believed to have replaced the Core i7-980X. The news also stated that before the official release of the i7-990X, Intel will not introduce other 6-core processors.
