Or split design HTC mobile VR head display plans to be listed this year from Baidu VR

Mobile devices such as the Samsung Gear VR have been leading the sales of the VR head display market. Compared with Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, Mobile VR offers consumers an entry-level option that is more cost-effective, so it is very popular with the market. HTC has realized this, and plans to launch its own mobile VR headset in 2017.

At the conference of HTC U series in Singapore, HTC’s Chief Financial Officer Zhang Jialin said in an interview with CNET: “We have a good plan to combine mobility and VR.”

Zhang Jialin added: “Vive is a very high-end device. In the coming months, you will see our plans for mobile VR. Instead of inserting a mobile phone into the headset, this is a different product.”

Most of the mobile VR headsets are now designed around smart phones, such as Gear VR and Google Daydream View. This is because consumers generally own smartphones, which greatly reduces the use threshold. However, according to Zhang Jialin's statement, HTC seems to plan to launch an integrated head display, embedding all computing components in the device.

In addition, Xiao Bian noted that HTC's latest flagship phone U Ultra is compatible with the head display. If this is the case, the VR headset may have a split design. It may be powered by a smartphone, perhaps via a cable, rather than inserting the phone into the head like the Gear VR, so that the phone can stay in its pocket.

Of course, we still have a lot of questions and I believe that HTC will answer them in the next few weeks because both the GDC and the Mobile World Congress will be held later this month. Zhang Jialin also pointed out that the first display will be available at the end of 2017.
