Internet of Things

According to Gartner, global IoT equipment and services spending will reach approximately RMB13.8 trillion in 2017.

Greater China, North America and Western Europe are driving the popularity of IoT devices. In 2017, these three regions accounted for 67% of total IoT devices.

The consumer sector is the largest user of IoT devices. In 2017, the number of IoT devices was 5.2 billion, accounting for 63%; the number of IoT devices used by enterprises was 3.1 billion. Peter Middleton, director of research at Gartner, said that in addition to cars, the most used IoT devices include smart TVs and digital set-top boxes; the most used IoT devices are smart meters and surveillance cameras.

In addition to smart meters, industry-specific IoT devices (including manufacturing equipment, process sensors for power plants, and real-time location devices for the medical industry) will drive the adoption of IoT devices in the enterprise in 2017, reaching 1.6 billion . However, starting in 2018, cross-industry equipment, such as equipment for smart buildings, will be the main engine driving the popularity of IoT devices. In 2020, the number of IoT devices across the industry will grow to 4.4 billion, and the number of IoT devices for specific industries will be 3.2 billion.

In 2017, companies accounted for 57% of IoT spending
