As the mobile broadband network penetrates into all areas of society, people are full of expectations for the fifth-generation mobile communication technology 5G that is fully connected and has thousands of times of capacity. However, 5G has many issues worth exploring from the definition of requirements to the key technology routes. It is generally believed that commercial use will be after 2020. In June 2014, ZTE Corporation’s wireless CTO first proposed the Pre5G concept at the Global 5G Technology Summit held in the Netherlands. The 5G technology was advanced to the 4G era for the first time.
In fact, Pre5G is a concept driven by customer demand, and ZTE has only made some abstractions. First of all, customers generally report that 5G research has been going on for several years. Why can't anyone say clearly what is 5G? There are many people trying to define 5G, but there has never been an authoritative definition. Secondly, 5G will not be commercialized until at least 2020. The first reaction of most customers is "there are still 6 years, nothing to do with me, let others study it."
When ZTE proposed the "Pre5G concept", it was unexpectedly found that it was not necessary to immediately come up with the "accurate 5G definition". Moreover, since Pre5G can be used based on 4G terminals, it is no longer after 2020, but may be in 2015 and 2016, so many customers immediately have a strong interest.
Simply put, Pre5G contains four elements: (1) Now that it is related to 5G, then it must be based on 5G technology. (2) Bring users a user experience that is much higher than 4G and close to 5G. For example, multiple throughput increases, multiple delays are reduced, and so on. (3) The time is much earlier than 2020. (4) It can be based on existing air ports, and even directly adopt 4G old terminals.
Some customers questioned that 5G has not yet been defined. How to define Pre5G? Although 5G is not defined from the standard point of view, it has been well defined in terms of requirements and key technologies. At least some technologies have been recognized as 5G technologies. So based on these recognized 5G technologies and 5G requirements, we define Pre5G completely without problems. According to the above features of Pre5G, the difference between Pre5G and 4G+ and 5G can be clearly defined. The performance of Pre5G is significantly beyond the definition of 4G+ standard, but it does not need to rely on the standard definition of 5G, only based on the standard 4G. Therefore, even if the Pre5G phase does not appear in the standard, a Pre5G phase between 4G+ and 5G will appear at the implementation level.
At present, ZTE has made outstanding progress in Pre5G technology. Related Massive MIMO (large-scale multi-antenna) and UDN (Ultra-Dense Network) technologies have commercial capabilities, which is objectively benefited from ZTE as the world's leading telecommunications equipment. Suppliers, in-depth understanding of 4G and 5G.
Therefore, although ZTE is the first company in the industry to clearly define the Pre5G technology and implement the commercialization of Pre5G, the concept of Pre5G is driven by customer demand.
Massive MIMO
In November 2014, ZTE and China Mobile completed the pre-commercial testing of the world's first TD-LTE 3D/Massive MIMO base station. The test was initiated and organized by China Mobile Research Institute, using ZTE's newly developed 64-port 128-antenna 3D/Massive MIMO baseband RF integrated outdoor base station. This test focuses on the full depth coverage of 3D/Massive MIMO for high-rise buildings. In the current network, the normal 8-channel vertical direction beam is fixed and the vertical coverage angle is small, which makes the high-level deep coverage difference, high-level interference, terminal receiving SINR, and low throughput rate, resulting in poor experience of high-level users, which has become an operator facing A big problem.
