Thick-shell quantum dot technology boosts semiconductor brightness by 100 times

Quantum Materials and Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) have released the quantum material optional Thick-Shell 'Giant quantum dot technology, which is superior to traditional nanocrystalline quantum dots in improving the brightness of semiconductor illumination. 10-10 times higher. High brightness improves material performance and improves display and LED lighting performance.

The "blinking" problem occurs when quantum dots are illuminated in an instant, which is often the challenge of some quantum dot applications. LANL found better separation and absorption through the shell, thick-shell quantum dots can greatly reduce the fluorescence intermittent, and significantly suppress the scintillation problem by nuclear luminescence (as shown).

Thick-shell technology extends the lifetime of quantum dots at higher temperatures and high optical densities, so it has a long life in QD liquid crystal backlit displays, semiconductor illumination films and projection illumination. Moreover, this flicker-free quantum dot has higher light output and less heat, which can lead to new product development and optimized design.

LANL also enables the development of thick-shell "Giant" QD near-infrared luminescence, which affects medical imaging applications, optoelectronics, lasers, telecommunications, and solar photovoltaics. For example, target cancer cells are easier to identify and track, and varying absorption and range of illumination provide tailored performance for electronic and solar design.

Quantum Materials plans to integrate LANL's thick-shell technology into quantum dot production lines. The company's automated process produces industrial grades while maintaining excellent consistency for reliable and economical production of thick-shell quantum dots.
