Global semiconductor spending will reach $62 billion

According to estimates by industry insiders, the total capital expenditure of the global semiconductor industry this year will reach US$6.22 billion, which is mainly due to the increasing popularity of mobile devices that has stimulated the market to increase the demand for IC components produced by advanced process nodes.

Global capital spending in the semiconductor industry reached a record high of $65 billion in 2011.

TSMC has already started providing foundry services based on the 20nm process technology. It is expected that it will provide foundry services based on the 16nm process technology by the end of this year.

TSMC’s capital expenditures from 2013 to 2014 will be close to US$10 billion, but it is expected that it will begin to shrink by 2015.

The total capital expenditure of Samsung Electronics between 2012 and 2014 will reach US$35 billion, of which 60% will be used to increase production capacity and develop processor technology.

The foundry giant Groffield’s capital expenditure this year will increase by 22% to US$5.5 billion, and its total capital expenditure during 2012-2014 will reach US$13.8 billion.
