Application of Liquid Phenyl Silicone in Power LED

Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) are widely used in screen display systems, indicator lights, backlights for mobile phones or digital products, etc. due to their advantages of easy control, low-voltage DC drive, low power consumption, high stability, short response time, and multi-color illumination. In the field, applications in landscape lighting, interior lighting, car lights, and mining lamps have also been actively developed; however, the use of LEDs in the field of power lighting is still immature. The heart of the LED is a semiconductor wafer. The packaging material is mainly epoxy resin. However, the heat resistance and light resistance of the epoxy resin are insufficient, and it is easy to turn yellow due to heat, which cannot meet the packaging requirements of high brightness (high power) LED. Silicone materials are gradually replacing epoxy resin because of their good optical properties (transmittance above 90%), weather resistance, heat resistance (no yellowing in high temperature environments), attractive impact, good adhesion, softness and environmental protection. Become the primary bonding, packaging, coating and optical material for LEDs.

In this experiment, an additive bicomponent phenyl silicone resin was prepared and used for power type (1~3W) LED5050 package. It tested its normal temperature (high temperature) ink penetration, reflow soldering, room temperature aging, high temperature aging, thermal shock, etc. Performance, based on the reliability of the test, evaluate whether the phenyl silicone resin is suitable for the process of the LED5050 series.
