The OSRAM SMARTRIX matrix lighting module is revolutionizing nighttime driving with its advanced technology, now featured in the new Jaguar E-PACE. Designed in collaboration with Varroc Lighting Systems, this innovative module offers an adaptive high beam (ADB) function that enhances visibility in challenging weather conditions, ensuring safer driving experiences.
The system intelligently controls light distribution on the road, allowing drivers to spot potential hazards more easily while minimizing glare for oncoming vehicles. This smart approach eliminates the need for manual switching between high and low beams, making night driving more convenient and comfortable.
At the heart of the SMARTRIX module are 10 Oslon Black Flat LEDs from Osram Opto Semiconductors, enabling up to 20 pixels per headlight. These LEDs deliver exceptional brightness and thermal stability even at high currents, ensuring consistent performance. The integration of durable silicon lenses marks a significant advancement, allowing for compact and powerful lighting systems that align with modern automotive design trends.
Hans-Joachim Schwab, CEO of OSRAM Special Lighting, emphasized the company’s commitment to innovation, stating that the SMARTRIX module represents a major leap forward in automotive lighting. “By working with Jaguar Land Rover, we’ve created a lighting solution that not only improves visibility but also sets a new standard for smart car illumination,†he said.
Nighttime driving remains a critical challenge due to reduced visibility and glare from oncoming headlights. The SMARTRIX module addresses these issues by using a front-facing camera and image processing software to automatically adjust the light pattern, providing a glare-free high beam that keeps both drivers safe.
This breakthrough technology has already made its way into the new Jaguar E-PACE, showcasing how cutting-edge lighting can enhance both safety and aesthetics. The module’s small size and superior performance open up new possibilities for car manufacturers, allowing them to experiment with more compact and stylish headlight designs.
OSRAM recently showcased the SMARTRIX module at the International Symposium on Automotive Lighting (ISAL) in Darmstadt, Germany. Alongside the SMARTRIX, other innovations such as the μAFS module demonstrator, OLED taillights, and LiDAR sensing systems were also displayed, highlighting the company’s leadership in automotive lighting solutions.
