The Dongfeng Honda Jade, initially unveiled back in 2013, has always occupied a somewhat ambiguous position in the automotive market. Its unique six-seat configuration made it stand out but also limited its appeal to a niche audience, resulting in lukewarm sales performance. However, things seemed to take a turn at last year's Guangzhou Auto Show when Dongfeng Honda introduced a refreshed version of the Jade. With updated styling and enhanced power options, it remains to be seen whether this model can replicate the success of the iconic Civic.
In terms of appearance, the front end of the new Jade features a significant redesign. The grille now adopts a U-shaped dual-banner motif, giving it a more modern and aggressive look compared to its predecessor. Additionally, the headlights have been reshaped, drawing inspiration from the latest Accord models, adding a touch of elegance and sophistication. The fog lights have also undergone transformation, transitioning from circular designs to elongated ones, while their surrounding frames have been reimagined for a bolder aesthetic.
Moving to the rear, although changes are less dramatic, they still bring noticeable improvements. The new Jade boasts a curved chrome trim on the lower bumper, enhancing its overall refinement. The exhaust system now sports a dual layout with chromed edges, providing a sleeker finish.
Inside, the cabin maintains much of the original layout but sees upgrades in materials and technology. Features such as a panoramic sunroof and shark-fin antennas cater to younger buyers looking for contemporary touches. Seat arrangements continue to offer both traditional 2+3 five-seater and innovative 2+2+2 six-seater options.
Under the hood, the lineup expands beyond the existing 1.8-liter naturally aspirated engine to include a new 1.5-liter turbocharged unit producing up to 156 horsepower. This engine pairs seamlessly with the CVT transmission, ensuring smooth driving experiences.
While these enhancements signal an effort by Dongfeng Honda to revitalize interest in the Jade, only time will tell if this mid-life facelift can truly capture the imagination of consumers and establish itself alongside legends like the Civic.
