Projects such as LEDs are stable. Toshiba’s 2012 Q2 operating profit reached US$722 million.

A few days ago, Toshiba announced its second quarter financial report for the fiscal year 2012. The data showed that its sales reached US$17.8 billion in this quarter and its operating profit reached US$722 million. Among them, “social infrastructure” projects (including power plants, LED bulbs and radiation detectors) generated stable revenues and contributed 518 million US dollars in profits, while digital products, home appliances and electronic devices did not meet expectations.

Due to the global economic downturn, Toshiba expects that its next sales and operating profit will decline, so they have reduced their full-year operating profit forecast to 3.26 billion US dollars (about 500 million US dollars lower than the original). In terms of sub-sectors, Toshiba will focus more on the performance of the “social infrastructure” sector, while other sectors may still be affected by the downturn economy.
