TWTC Nangang Exhibition Hall held a three-day exhibition "Photonics Festival in Taiwan 2011" and "Display Taiwan 2011" from June 14th, 2011. ) This is a grand exhibition about LED. In the overall theme of the exhibition "Living Green", the LED display promoting low power consumption characteristics attracted the attention of participants. From the exhibitions and parallel seminars, you can also see the changes in Taiwan's LED industry.

The LED lighting equipment is a photonics festival in Taiwan. It consists of three exhibitions: "OPTO Taiwan" exhibited by many optical equipment companies, "LED Lightning Taiwan" exhibited by LED lighting and related manufacturing companies, and "Solar Taiwan" related to solar cells. Photonics Festival in Taiwan has a total of 1,420 exhibitors, of which about 40% are LED-related companies. Led by Lite 0n Technology, Kingbright Electronic, Everlight Electronics, Epistar, Delta Electronics, and Lextar Electronics Companies are headed by a large number of companies for their magnificent displays.

Taiwan's LED Industry Positioning Statistics of the Taiwan Optoelectronics Industry Association (PIDA) show that the global LED industry scale (including lighting) is expected to be 21.7 billion US dollars in 2011, of which Taiwan will account for more than 1/3 (TWD 229.4 billion). . The specific composition of the LED industry in Taiwan is as follows: LED epitaxial wafers (wafers and chips) are worth NT$70.9 billion, packaging is NT$101.9 billion, and lighting is NT$56.6 billion. The scale of the industry is expected to increase by 15 to 25% over the next few years.

Target applications for Taiwan's LED industry have been dominated by FPD backlights in recent years, accounting for about 40% of the total. Until now, the use of small-sized displays has been the center of attention. However, the proportion of large-scale display applications will gradually increase in the future, and it is expected that this will be reversed in 2012. In addition, the use of lighting is also expanding, and it is estimated that by 2013 it will grow to approximately 20% of the total (Figure 1). In lighting applications, not only residential uses, but also commercial facilities and road uses are expected to grow substantially.

The two together account for about 40% of the market's overall share. In the future, the use of Illumination will increase. (Seminar provided by PIDA Guo Ziling at the seminar with the exhibition. Senior Industry Analyst Deaphne Cuo, who is trying to shift from backlight to lighting field, Deaphne Cuo said at the seminar “2011 Taiwan LED Lighting International Symposium” held in conjunction with the show: “Taiwan LED manufacturers have been In the display backlight market, businesses are developing, but due to IP issues, rapid price reductions, and various requirements of panel makers, various manufacturers can only ensure benefits in a short period of time. The boom in the lighting field that is currently emerging has emerged. Many new challenges, so it is necessary to change the previous business model."

The projects to be challenged are as follows: (1) Standardization has not been promoted; (2) There are a large number of customers (lighting equipment manufacturers) in Taiwan and in the world; (3) The performance parameters and the shape of the lamps for various purposes such as indoor and outdoor use are varied; (4) must meet the needs of different regions; (5) Because it is to carry out multi-variety production, it is difficult to expand the scale of production, inventory management will be more complicated, and so on. Therefore, Guo Ziling emphasized that "we need to change our previous business model to respond."

Vincent Cheng, vice president of Taiwan’s Rand Electronics, who gave a speech at the “Corporate Strategy” chapter of the seminar, also believes that the lighting market is a “small, varied, or varied” market, emphasizing the provision of services that meet diversity requirements. Important.

How to use the established supply chain?

In Taiwan, there are a large number of companies involved in upstream wafers and downstream application businesses, and they have built a one-stop supply chain (Figure 2). In particular, the most downstream application layer has more than 300 companies involved. In the future, in addition to the lighting industry, the use of LEDs will be extended to many fields such as automobiles. In this context, the future trend of these companies will become increasingly important.

From upstream wafers to downstream applications, a large number of companies have set foot in and have built a one-stop supply chain. (PID data of Guo Ziling's speech. Data provided by Guo Ziling)

It is estimated that the global LED industry will reach about twice the size of 2011 in 2013 (the global total is 401 billion US dollars, of which Taiwan is 414.2 billion TWD. Taken from the PIDA data). Enterprises in countries and regions of the world will compete in this expanding market. How the status of various countries and regions will change will also affect the strategy of each company.

From the trend of the industrial scale of countries and regions in 2009 and 2010, the share of Japan fell from 33% to 30%, Taiwan decreased slightly from 21% to 20%, and remained basically unchanged, while South Korea increased significantly from 14%. To 20%. This situation is exactly the same as that of the LCD industry. In the future, in the unpredictable industry, how this share will change depends mainly on the strategies of various countries, regions, and companies. Through this exhibition and seminar, countries and regions have strongly felt that it is now a crucial moment
