Solder directly to the motherboard: SanDisk steals SATA μSSD SSD

Solder directly to the motherboard: SanDisk steals SATA μSSD SSD The SATA-IO organization has just announced a new standard "SATAμSSD" for embedded solid-state storage devices. SanDisk has for the first time introduced iSSD series solid-state drives based on this standard.

SATAμSSD is an embedded storage solution that removes the interface module of the traditional SATA interface and defines a new electrical pin layout to achieve SATA transmission in a single chip of a BGA package and is directly connected to the motherboard. This is also the most compact physical SATA implementation so far and is ideal for small mobile devices such as ultra-slim notebooks and tablets.

The SanDisk iSSD SSD complies with the SATAμSSD standard specification. The BGA package has a single-chip design with a length and width of only 20×16 mm, a height of only 1.2 mm (32 GB or less), and a maximum thickness of 1.85 mm (128 GB). There is also a 1.4mm (64GB).

The SanDisk iSSD has five kinds of capacities: 8GB, 16GB, 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB. The continuous read speed is up to 450MB/s, the continuous write speed is up to 160MB/s, and the nCache cache acceleration technology is supported. The power consumption is as low as 10mW.
