On December 26th, according to foreign media reports, a Chinese LED manufacturer has placed an order with Aixtron, the world's largest supplier of MOCVD equipment. Affected by this news, the German Aixtron stock price rose in the Frankfurt stock market.
The Chinese LED manufacturer has ordered 400 to 500 MOCVD equipment from Aixtron. Aixtron's share price has risen by 1.89 euros or 7.6% to 26.84 euros, and at 10:51 am local time on Friday. The stock was quoted at 26.83 euros. Industry insiders predict that China's LED industry will install 700 to 800 metal-organic chemical steam treators in 2011, the so-called MOCVD equipment. The installation will be twice the amount this year. The purchased MOCVD equipment will produce semiconductor structural components for materials such as light-emitting diodes.
Aixtron spokesperson Guido Pickert said that the company is still not fully clear about how to implement LED technology including MOCVD equipment in China, so Guido Pickert declined to comment on the matter and did not disclose the name of the Chinese company. He added that if the data is true and reliable, Aixtron and Veeco, another major supplier of MOCVD equipment, will benefit at the same time.
