At present, the safety light curtain on the Chinese market is mainly divided into two safety light curtains and four safety light curtains. But what are the differences between the two? According to the provisions of IEC 61496, there are differences in the design, structure, and testing of the secondary safety light curtain and the fourth-level safety light curtain. Specifically embodied in the following aspects:

1, cost and performance

The secondary light curtain is generally low-cost, single-CPU processor, dual security channel output; four-stage light curtain is equipped with dual-CPU processor, dual security channel output, using four-level control, with more superior performance.

2, function

Secondary light curtains use self-diagnosis or external cycle testing for fault detection, and use troubleshooting to ensure safety performance; four-level light curtains use self-diagnosis for fault checking, and use higher-level fault mutual inspection.

3, beam angle

The emission angle of the secondary light curtain is relatively large, reaching ±5°, slightly affected by the disturbance light; the emission angle of the fourth-order light curtain is small, ±2.5°, slightly affected by the interference light.

4, application

Secondary light curtains are generally used in small, light, or moderately hazardous situations, as well as in applications such as automated production equipment, robotic workstations, material pick and place devices, or additional security.

The four-stage light curtain can be used in high-risk situations where severe injuries or deaths occur, and serves as a major protection device for the danger zone. The result of the injury needs to be documented in the Occupational Safety and Health Regulations. In addition, four levels of light curtains must be used in some local regulatory requirements.

In recent years, due to the popularity and popularity of industrial automation, industrial safety devices such as safety light curtains have received great attention in the domestic market. At present, in the Chinese mainland market, safety light curtains are mostly grade 2 and below. According to statistics, the actual application ratio of the class 2 light curtain and the class 4 light curtain is close to 9:1.

1, optical coding module technology

Saigad’s four-stage safety light curtain adopts optical coding module technology to simplify field wiring. The optical synchronization signal is easily interfered with by various signals in the field, and the interference is more obvious when multiple systems are installed at close range. In order to solve this problem, Saigade safety light curtain encodes the transmitted and received optical signals, uses two sets of optical signals with different frequencies, and specific software algorithms to ensure that the system works normally.

2, EDM function design

The EDM mainly checks and confirms whether the contactor loses power when the protection device responds. If external device monitoring is enabled, the contactor is checked after each interruption of the light path and before the machine is restarted. In this way, if there is a contact weld, EDM can identify it. In this case, external device monitoring places the system in a safe operating state. In this situation, OSSD will not be re-enabled. Connect the normally closed contacts of the safety relay controlled by the OSD function to the 24V in series before starting the function. When the device is powered on, the system will first perform a self-test on the entire system. During the self-test process, the system will determine whether the EDM function is normal according to the user's set state. If it is not normal, the system will not output the warning and exit the warning state.

3, launch and receive mechanism module design

The transmit and receive mechanisms consist of transmit signal modulation, transmit mechanism, code transmit, receive mechanism, and receive decoding mechanism. Transmit signal modulation divides the signal into synchronous and data signals. The launch mechanism converts electrical signals into light signals and emits them. The coded emission is the transmission of a pulse signal, the output of the synchronization head signal, the conversion of the electric signal into an optical signal through the transistor connected to the infrared emission tube, and then transmitted, and finally the original synchronization head signal is converted into a data signal.

The receiving mechanism means that when the receiving end receives a specific coded signal, it will output a low-level signal of a corresponding length, and determine whether there is a received signal by determining whether the receiving end is at a low level. The receiving and decoding mechanism adopts dual MCU synchronous decoding. The main MCU detects the pulse width of the signal and detects whether there is any signal from the MCU.

4, power module function design

Power Sampling TI's LMR14020 and LMR14006, the LMR14020 device is a 40V, 2A buck regulator with an integrated high-side MOSFET. The device has a wide input voltage range of 4V to 40V and is suitable for power regulation of unregulated power supplies in various applications from industrial to automotive applications. Also has overvoltage protection and short circuit protection, external soft start and so on. The LMR14006 output current can reach 600mA. The circuit design LMR14020 power VCC output is 5V/1A, LMR14006 power VCC1 output is 5V/0.6A.

In order to improve the safety level of the power supply, we set the power supply to two separate VCCs and VCC1s, supplying MCU1 and MCU2 respectively. Even if one of the power supplies is abnormal, the other can be monitored in real time and the device can be shut down quickly and normally.
