Several Misunderstandings Needed to Be Avoided by Aerial Photography of Drones

As drones become more and more integrated into the public's life, photographers are eager to take aerial photography, hoping to capture more interesting photos through a unique "God perspective." As everyone knows, it is no different from regular photography. The aerial photography of drones is also very particular about composition and shooting. Without a reasonable composition and a clear theme, the work tends to be unremarkable. Today, we will talk about a few misunderstandings that aerial photography needs to avoid.

First, novices are easy to fall into the "satellite mapping" cycle

First, let's take some examples.

This work first did not maintain the horizon, and secondly the height was too high, making the building blurred. The whole work does not make people understand the original intention of the photographer.

The ground of this work occupies the entire picture and is too high. If the height is lowered, the building is made clearer, and the angle is adjusted so that the sky occupies 1/3 of the picture. Perhaps it is a work that shows the prosperous residential area.

The angle perpendicular to the ground is a common form of expression in aerial photography. Such aerial photography requires higher composition and requires the photographer to have sufficient knowledge of the objects on the ground. This work has no composition and is cluttered. If the height is lowered, the picture is concentrated on the interlaced roads on the right side, which may be an excellent work.

Second, choose the right height

Many aerial shooters are very keen to understand and try to know how high the UAV can fly when they just bought a drone or did not buy a drone, and even broke the limit set by the manufacturer. But aerial drones are different from ordinary airplane models, and we don't have to test their extreme performance.

Take the Dajiang UAV as an example, the height limit is 500 meters, which is enough to meet most aerial photography needs, and the height is based on the current takeoff position. If you take off from the roof, the flight altitude will be much higher than 500 meters from the ground.

The three works that appeared in the first misunderstanding are far less than 500 meters in height, and the subject in the picture has become very small, affecting the overall performance of the picture. For the time being, we will not discuss the impact on the screen. If the drone is flying too high, it will greatly affect the safety. When it is small, it will blow up the machine, and the big one will hurt others and property. We must pay attention to this issue.

The heights of the following works are very low, magnifying the subject of the shot, the screen has impact, and the visual effect is very good.

Third, the subject matter of the film should not be too single

For aerial photography, it is easy to fall into the same "misunderstanding" as conventional photography: what other people shoot and what I shoot. In fact, drone aerial photography is the least should have such a misunderstanding. UAVs can usually fly for several kilometers, and within a few kilometers, there are so many subjects to be photographed. Why do you want to be like others?

Previously, aerial photography was once popular in shooting overpasses. It is true that drones are very good for expressing the prosperity and modernity of the city, but blindly shooting on the viaduct will inevitably lead to visual fatigue. How to combine the city with the humanities and the scenery is more important and worth considering.

The size and weight of drones have been declining, ushered in the era of portability. We can carry it on the go and take pictures that are very different from others. The photos below show the different characteristics of the city and nature.

Fourth, how should aerial photography be composed?

The composition of the aerial photography is not much different from the conventional photography. The composition of the 3-point method and the horizontal line is still applicable.
