[Global Network Technology Report] According to foreign media reports on September 26, Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. will produce embedded Universal Flash Storage for next-generation vehicles.
Samsung said that the eUFS flash memory is designed for advanced driver assistance systems, dashboard systems, and infotainment systems, and is available in 64GB and 128GB versions.
Since the beginning of 2015, eUFS upgraded from eMMC has been used for mobile devices. At the time, eUFS was exclusively for flagship handsets, and now mid-range handsets are starting to use eUFS instead of the original eMMC.
Samsung's eUFS flash will provide greater data transfer speeds, read speeds of up to 850 megabytes per second, and random read speeds of 45,000 input/output operations per second.
The eUFS flash complies with the JEDEC UFS 2.1 standard, as well as the upcoming JEDEC UFS 3.0 standard, with the necessary data refresh and temperature notification capabilities. Samsung said that the temperature notification function through the controller is very important for the touch car environment.
Samsung formed an automotive team in 2015 to provide components for automotive manufacturers, including display screens, batteries, and memory chips. It acquired Harman for $8 billion and added car audio to its product components. Samsung is currently the world's largest supplier of memory chips, including both NAND flash (such as eUFS) and dynamic random access memories (DRAMs).
